Relief Prints
After graduating from college I moved to Tokyo, Japan and was enamored with Japanese woodblock printing (木版画, mokuhanga). While in Japan I bought a set of carving tools, but didn't actually use them to make my first block print until several years later.
I enjoy the challenge of carving and like the idea of creating multiples where each one is slightly different. The design is first carved into a linoleum or wood block, the block is inked and then hand pressed onto paper. I make these in small editions of only ten to twenty prints. As they are hand pressed each one has subtle variations
