This painting was created with spray paint, powdered gold leaf and multiple layers of epoxy resin, 12"x12"x1" deep.
My abstract / resin paintings are created by slowly building up alternating layers of paint and clear epoxy resin. This painting also has powdered gold leaf added to a layer of resin, while still liquid. The gold powder disperses unpredictably in random, organic shapes.
As the layers of resin and paint build, a striking optical effect is created, magnifying the design and enhancing the colors. The painting's sense of depth is increased by the actual physical depth of the resin. Their creation is multiple steps of painting, sanding, mixing and pouring resin, repeated several times for each piece. It is time consuming but the results are glossy, bold and bright. They are a satisfying exploration of color, pattern and optics.
